M.A., Education: Curriculum and Instruction, B.A., English Literature
New Mexico Level III-A Instructional Leader license with endorsements in language arts, reading, TESOL, and psychology

Ms. Shaw was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, where she learned that life in the city could be . . . crowded! In 1990, she came out to the Southwest and made a new life for herself under the big sky of the New Mexico desert. Her daughter, Zoe, was born in 1996 and was enrolled in Walatowa Head Start when Ms. Shaw began teaching at San Diego Riverside in 1999.

Ms. Shaw has taught in many areas of New Mexico including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Laguna Pueblo,  Los Alamos, and of course, Jemez Pueblo. She embraces a student-centered, collaborative, interdisciplinary, and project-based approach to learning and believes assessment should be authentic.

In her 26 years in public education in New Mexico, Ms. Shaw has taught courses in English language arts, reading, study skills, drama, creative writing, journalism, publications, and computer applications.

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the light of a fire.” W.B. Yeats

Welcome: Hi, I’m Ms. Millea. I have been teaching 2nd grade at SDRCS for 3 years. I have
lived in New Mexico for most of my life, though I was born and raised in California. I currently
live in Corrales with my husband John. I am lucky to have 3 adult children who live close by
and 4 amazing grandkids. I love teaching, crafting and hanging out with my grands.
Education: I received my B.A. in Art from WNMU and my Masters in Secondary Education from
the same university. I taught photography and art at the high school level before returning to
school to get my elementary license.
Philosophy of Education: My philosophy is to make learning as engaging and authentic as
possible and to always remember to be my students’ biggest cheerleader.
